The infamous capital of the vibrant and culture rich country that is Italy, Rome is a beautiful city and densely populated with museums and galleries brimming with treasure. If Rome isn’t on your bucket list, it definitely needs to be. Home to one of the seven wonders of the world (Colosseum duh), the city is full of amazing art and culture as well as a lushious collection of Italian cuisine. I was pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive and accessible Rome is, we never felt that we couldn’t afford some of the attractions or that we had to budget our meals, instead Rome is an excellent option for a long summer weekend.
Rome wasn't built in a day, if you pardon the cliché, but it is a city cloaked in layers of history and embellished with evidence of its ancient civilisation. An empire over 2800 years old, Rome is said to be founded by two brothers Romulus and Remus the sons of the God of War, abandoned in a basket on the River Tiber after the king feared they would one day overthrow him. Found and nursed by a shewolf, eventually the brothers founded the city on the Palestine Hill, although, like all siblings, Remus p***ed off Romulus and ended up getting himself killed by his not so forgiving brother, giving rise to the name Rome.
A perfect Italian getaway, Rome is great if you are into your history and want to be spoilt for things to do, it is also a beautiful city to wander. With hidden squares and fountains tucked around every winding corner, it is an amazing place to escape from the monotony and abysmal weather of the UK as well as a great place for pizza!
Currency: Euro €
Language: Italian Some common words to know before you travel: Hello = Ciao, Thank you = Grazie , Please = Per favore , The Bill Please = il conte per favore Time Difference: +1 Hour Best Time to Visit: Although it depends what you are looking for from your visit to Rome, I think the warmer months are much better for walking around all the city has to offer. Alot of the attractions are outdoors and would be much less enjoyable in the rain. I think anywhere between May and September would have the best weather, avoiding the summer holiday months as these will be extremely busy. Flight Time: 2 hour 40 mins from the UK Price Range: I was actually surprised by how reasonable Rome was, we picked up snacks ie slices of pieces for a couple of euros, meals are average priced in most restaurants around €25 for two courses and a drink each. Thanks for the info. I've heard Rome is amazing. I'm planning on visiting Florence and then making my way to Rome eventually.

I’ve always wanted to visit Rome! I think before, it used to be a very expensive tourist spot but the prices may have gone down now. It may have been airfare that was so expensive, especially flying from the US to Rome.
